The software teaches too.
The knowledge was never missing. It simply had nowhere to go at the moment it was needed.
CRIT Studio is a one-person studio in Hyderabad, run by Kamalanarayanan Kamalakannan. It exists because the same problems kept appearing in the studio and in the classroom, and waiting for somebody else to solve them stopped being reasonable.
Every tool is an argument about how the work should be done. Most of them are arguing for somebody else.
Three years compositing, twelve years teaching, the same thing in both.
Three years compositing on international features, then twelve years teaching, and the same thing kept happening in both. A student can explain a colour harmony in a seminar and then reason badly about colour the moment After Effects is open. A shoot gets planned properly and the green screen still turns out too small.
Professional software is built for the studio pipeline, not for the person learning inside it. That is a reasonable thing for a company to do, and it leaves a gap that nobody is paid to close. These tools sit in that gap.
Each one began as a difficulty in a real course or a real shot, and each was handed to a cohort who broke it in the first week.
Nothing here is speculative product work. The studio runs alongside a teaching practice, which means every tool has somewhere to fail early and in public. Four apps are now on the App Store: Colour Studio arrived in August 2026, then Bearing, Markshift and Kachik in September.
Notice, question, make, stay for the critique.

Notice the friction
Watch a real task. Understand the workaround before deciding what to build.
In practice · BearingA field photo says where it was taken, but not how sure the phone was. Bearing starts from that gap: record the accuracy, not just the pin.
- 02
Question the obvious
A practitioner’s frustration starts a hypothesis. Other people’s experience tests it.
In practice · CritThe obvious move is an AI that gives students answers. Crit questions that, with a coach that asks rather than answers.
- 03
Make it tangible
Build a useful response that someone can put to work, in the context that matters.
In practice · SettlePhysics you can hand in. Settle simulates in the panel, then bakes to plain Position and Rotation keyframes in one undo group.
- 04
Stay for the critique
Learn from use. Continue, change direction, or stop on the evidence.
In practice · Crit PanelUse in the classroom shaped the builds. The licence gate went, replaced by an open student build and a studio build.
What the tools hold to.
- Small and finished beats large and promisedA tool that does one thing properly earns its place. A roadmap does not.
- Say where it stopsEvery product here states what it cannot do. A tool built for judgement should be honest about the limits of its own.
- Build where the work happensHelp that sits beside the task is ignored. Help inside the task gets used.
- AI is a co-pilot, not the craftIt should widen what a person can attempt, never stand in for the thinking that makes the work theirs.
It is not a team, and it does not pretend to be. It is not venture funded, and it is not trying to replace the professional software anybody already depends on. Several of these tools are free because adoption mattered more than revenue while they were being tested, which is a decision rather than a business model.

If you are looking for enterprise support agreements, this is the wrong studio. If you have a recurring problem in your own work and nobody is solving it, that is exactly the conversation worth having.
