About

Curiosity,
made useful.

CRIT Studio is a one-person studio in Hyderabad, run by Kamalanarayanan Kamalakannan. It exists because the same problems kept appearing in the studio and in the classroom, and waiting for somebody else to solve them stopped being reasonable.

The belief underneath all of itEvery tool is an argument
about how the work should be done.
Most of them are
arguing for somebody else.

NOTICE → QUESTION → MAKE → STAY FOR THE CRITIQUE

The position the studio works from.

01 / Why these exist

The software teaches too.

Three years compositing on international features, then twelve years teaching, and the same thing kept happening in both. A student can explain a colour harmony in a seminar and then reason badly about colour the moment After Effects is open. A shoot gets planned properly and the green screen still turns out too small. The knowledge was never missing. It simply had nowhere to go at the moment it was needed.

Professional software is built for the studio pipeline, not for the person learning inside it. That is a reasonable thing for a company to do, and it leaves a gap that nobody is paid to close. These tools sit in that gap. Each one began as a difficulty in a real course or a real shot, and each was handed to a cohort who broke it in the first week.

01

Small and finished beats large and promised

A tool that does one thing properly earns its place. A roadmap does not.

02

Say where it stops

Every product here states what it cannot do. A tool built for judgement should be honest about the limits of its own.

03

Build where the work happens

Help that sits beside the task is ignored. Help inside the task gets used.

04

AI is a co-pilot, not the craft

It should widen what a person can attempt, never stand in for the thinking that makes the work theirs.

Practice informs the product.

Nothing here is speculative product work. The studio runs alongside a teaching practice, which means every tool has somewhere to fail early and in public.

What this studio is not.

It is not a team, and it does not pretend to be. It is not venture funded, and it is not trying to replace the professional software anybody already depends on. Several of these tools are free because adoption mattered more than revenue while they were being tested, which is a decision rather than a business model. If you are looking for enterprise support agreements, this is the wrong studio. If you have a recurring problem in your own work and nobody is solving it, that is exactly the conversation worth having.
